THE ADJUSTED RUN LINE
An adjusted run line is the standard 1.5-run baseball spread pushed out to 2.5 runs or more. Favorites pay more for winning big; underdogs pay more for extra cushion.
MORE RUNS • MORE PAYOUTs
3 STEPS OUT
Start at the standard line, move the spread, and watch the price swing with it.
01
STANDARD LINE
Every game opens at -1.5.
02
THE ADJUSTMENT
Move it to -2.5, -3.5 or more.
03
PRICE SWING
Each run added moves the odds.
START WITH THE MONEYLINE
The moneyline asks who wins. The standard run line adds a 1.5-run spread: the favorite at -1.5 must win by 2 or more, the underdog at +1.5 can lose by 1 and still cash.
NOW MOVE THE SPREAD TO 2.5
Rangers at Mariners. Seattle is -155 on the moneyline and -1.5 at +130 on the run line. Adjust to -2.5 and the Mariners pay +200, but must win by 3 or more. Rangers +2.5 costs -260, and Texas can lose 5-3 and still cash.
More runs, more payout. More cushion, more cost.
RANGERS vs MARINERS
MARINERS -2.5
WIN BY 3+ • +200
RANGERS +2.5
LOSE BY ≤2 • -260
ONE MORE RUN, ONE PRICE SWING
$100 ON SEATTLE, THREE WAYS
Moneyline -155: risk $155 to win $100. Run line +130: $100 wins $130. Adjusted +200: $100 wins $200 on a 3-run win.
+130
WIN BY 2 → $130
+200
WIN BY 3 → $200
SEATTLE WINS BY…
Each margin grades the three tickets differently. By 1: only the moneyline cashes. By 2: moneyline and -1.5 cash. By 3 or more: all three, and -2.5 pays the most.

FAVORITE OR UNDERDOG
Bet Seattle -2.5 when you expect domination: an ace on the mound, a weak opposing starter. Bet Texas +2.5 when a live dog should stay close and you want insurance.

WRAPPING IT UP
The adjusted run line is the run line with the dial turned up. Push the spread to 2.5 and the favorite goes from +130 to +200, but now needs to win by 3. Use it when you can see a blowout coming, or when you want a dog protected by two full runs.
HANDICAP THE MARGIN
FIVE RULES BEFORE YOU BET
You’re not betting who wins; you’re betting how big. Check the pitching matchup first, then recent margins, then home and away splits, before you touch a -2.5 line.
01
PRICE ALL THREE
Compare moneyline, run line and adjusted line.
02
BET THE MARGIN
Not who wins; by how many.
03
STUDY STARTERS
A mound mismatch is the setup for a -2.5 win.
04
MIND THE BULLPEN
Late runs allowed shrink a lead below the number.
05
SIZE FOR SWINGS
Plus-money favorites lose often; bet smaller.
