WHAT IS A
Reverse Wager?
A reverse wager is two or more “if bets” stacked together run in both directions so you cover every combination. It gives you more ways to win than a parlay and softens the blow when one pick misses. More moving parts, but more control.
TWO BETS • BOTH DIRECTIONS
A REVERSE WAGER IN 3 PARTS
You’re covering every “if” not riding one all-or-nothing ticket.
01
THE IF BET
Bet game one; if it wins, a bet on game two is placed.
02
THE REVERSE
Run it the other way too game two first, then game one.
03
BOTH COMBINATIONS
Every order is covered, so one loss doesn’t sink you.
IT’S LIKE IF BETS, BUT BOTH WAYS
An if bet wagers on one game, and only if it wins does a second bet go down. A reverse wager runs that logic in both directions if the Bulls win, you bet the Knicks; if the Knicks win, you bet the Bulls. Each leg is its own bet, but together they cover both combinations.
HOW IT WORKS — A QUICK EXAMPLE
$55 per side, two teams.
If Bet 1
Bulls -5 → if they win, bet the Knicks.
If Bet 2
Knicks +3 → if they win, bet the Bulls.
Both win: +$200 ($310 back). One wins: -$60. Both lose: -$110.
HOW THE PAYOUTS WORK
Payouts follow each game’s odds. At standard -110 on two legs ($55 each, $110 total): win both and you profit $200 ($310 back); split and you’re down about $60; lose both and you drop the full $110. Adding underdog moneylines can boost the upside — with more risk.
Both win
+$200 profit ($310 total)
One wins
−$60
Both lose
−$110
REVERSE VS. A PLAIN IF BET
The difference is coverage. A regular if bet only places the second wager if the first wins lose the opener and you’re done. A reverse wager places both combinations, so you still have a live bet no matter which game comes in first. More cost, but more ways to win.
THE TRADE-OFF
PROS
• More ways to win if not all hit
• Lower risk than a full parlay
• Big upside with underdog moneylines
CONS
• Smaller payouts than a full parlay
• More complex for beginners
• Both legs losing still stings

REVERSE WAGER VS. THE FIELD
Reverse
wager
Both if-bet combinations; more ways to win, lower risk.
If
bet
One direction only; second bet only if the first wins.
Parley
bet
All legs on one ticket; bigger payout, but one miss loses it all.
Why
Reverse Bet
You want parlay-style upside with a safety net.
WRAPPING IT UP
A reverse wager trades some parlay upside for flexibility and safety you get more chances to win even when a pick misses. Stick to teams you’re confident in, keep it to two or three, sprinkle in the odd underdog moneyline, and watch your bankroll since the bets add up fast.
DISCIPLINE > HUNCHES
FIVE RULES BEFORE YOU BET
Before placing any bet, it’s essential to understand the fundamentals. These five rules will help you stay disciplined, avoid impulsive decisions, and approach betting with a clear strategy.
01
ONLY CONFIDENT PICKS
One bad leg drags the whole thing down.
02
SPRINKLE IN UNDERDOGS
Moneyline dogs boost the payout.
03
DON’T OVERLOAD
Two or three teams, not the max four.
04
WATCH THE BUDGET
Multiple bets add up quickly.
05
KNOW THE OUTCOMES
Win-both, split, lose-both before you place it.
